Project Finance

Project finance is the financing of typically capital intensive large scale infrastructure, with a highly leveraged structure based upon the long term cash flows of a project with a finite life and limited or no recourse to the equity sponsors together with a controlled dividend policy.

Infrastructure is critical to support social progress and the achievement of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals. In terms of the opportunity for investment, the infrastructure gap is estimated at $1 trillion in low and middle income countries, and the demand for infrastructure continues to grow as countries develop. This has come at a time when there are many challenges to the financing of this market particularly since the financial crisis in 2008 and the subsequent changes in capital rules for banks. These challenges have resulted in the emergence of new infrastructure funds and the requirement for institutional investors to invest in the resources required to participate in the market. It is clear that with the volume of investment required many forms of capital (government, bank and institutional funding) will be needed. Therefore, we anticipate that significant opportunities to be available to all those looking to participate.

Centrus has been assisting clients in both the public and private sector to design and developing innovative financing structures to ensure the most efficient and appropriate financing is obtained for your project.   Members of our team have structured, managed and advised upon some of the most innovative and complex large scale project financings completed internationally across schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, tunnels, police stations, courts, military housing or aircraft, prisons, conference centres, rail, telecommunications, emergency training facilities, street lighting, energy from waste, wastewater treatment, general accommodation, third level education and social housing.
